State Performance Program Overview
Basketball Queensland has significantly restructured the former State Team program, in order to create a talent identification and development model that meets the needs of our athletes, assists the state body in achieving its targets and to prepare our teams for national competitions.
The restructured State Performance Program has been designed to be in alignment with the new National Performance Program and the new Future Development Program. Integration of the National Performance Program and the State Development Program will allow for systematic and progressive identification, selection and development of athletes from Under 15 to Under 20 age groups.
The State Performance Program will operate in two (2) regions – north and south Queensland. Basketball Queensland will employ a full-time State Performance Program manager based in Brisbane, who will be responsible for managing the State Performance Program and the Future Development Program.
The stated objectives of the Basketball Queensland State Performance Program
- Identify athletes from the State Championships tournaments, state team trials and Future Development Program who display the characteristics and ability required of an elite athlete, and train them in a group environment to become state team representatives.
- Transitioning ‘potential’ into ‘talent’ by developing, reinforcing and monitoring positive training habits.
- Increased contact with expert coaches for our state team athletes
- Increase the pool of athletes who have the ability to meet state team standards
- Further educate the athletes about sports science and sports medicine concepts
- Prepare the athletes for national championship competitions in their home environments
- Improved support for state team coaches
- Improved preparation of our bottom aged players
- Provide regional support for identified coaches and athletes
- Act as a resource for their identified region

**Please note: We cannot implement the Under 15 Emerging State Team Program in 2012. This is due to the face that preparations are already underway for the Under 15 State Development Teams to attend the Pacific Coast Slam in January, therefore, the implementation of the Under 16 (15???) Emerging State Team Program will be deferred until 2013**
